Instructions For Closing A Windows Live Hotmail Account

While it is not advisable to close the Windows Live Hotmail Account, as it offers a range of services, including sharing of your images, documents, and a range of other offers. Recently, Windows Live is offering 25 GB of FREE disk space so that you can share your photographs, videos, and other documents with your friends and relatives. To access all these services, you need the Hotmail ID.

Even though, if you have decided to call it an off, you may close the Hotmail Account anytime. The following are the steps to close the account permanently. Please note that when you close the Hotmail account, you will lose all the emails plus any of the above services you may be using. A Hotmail account also serves as a .NET passport so it is recommended that you keep it even if you don’t want to use it for emailing purpose.

Closing a Windows Live Hotmail Account

  1. Open your browser, enter hotmail.com in the address bar and hit enter. You will be taken to the hotmail login page.
  2. Log in to the hotmail account using your Login ID and the associated password.
  3. As you are determined to close the account, backup all the data before termination of the account.
  4. To backup or save important emails, you can forward them to some other email account.
  5. To backup the images, sounds, songs, and other documents that are present on your Windows Live Space, you will have to download them to your local machine. You can also forward them to some other ID, provided the files are less than 20 MB in space. Do not forget to download the address book lest you lose all the important addresses.
  6. Reconsider your decision as you will be losing the .NET passport that gives you single ID access to a range of Windows based services, including your AOL and Windows Messenger, Windows Live MySpace, and many other features.
  7. Once you make up your mind and still want to delete the account, click on the link that says Close Account.
  8. Once you click the link, it will take around 120 days to completely close your account.

In case your mind changes during these 120 days, just login with the hotmail ID and password to reactivate your account.
